Why do we report seasonal sightings? Collectively our observations present a snapshot of the state of our birds as published in South Dakota Bird Notes. Our snapshot then becomes a part of a regional report published in North American Birds which provides birders and scientists alike a broader picture of continental changes. Whether you enter your sightings in eBird or keep small spiral notebooks, you are encouraged to summarize your season and report to our on-line database. Check the state checklist to see the status of a species in either a season or geographically.
