The North Central region’s birding has many glacial lakes on the east and the Missouri River highlands on the west. In between lie the prairie potholes of the Leola Hills and the 8,000 Sq. mile Ordway Prairie. Sand Lake NWR lies in the NE part of the area, near Aberdeen. It's nearly 22,000 Sq. miles is world renowned for massive migrations and breeding wetland birds.
