East Central SD birding has a great variety of locations that offer great birds. Sioux Falls and Brookings have city parks that can have large groups of migrating warblers and wintering Boreal Forest birds. . Maga Ta-Hohpi wetland west of Huron and Oakwood Lakes SP near Brookings have many species of waterbirds. The eastern group of counties in the area is dotted with glacial lakes for seasonal shorebirds and waterfowl. One of the largest natural lakes in the state, Lake Thompson, can produce rare species of water birds.
