Black Hills Birding Sites

NW BH SC Cen NC
NE EC SE
The beautiful Black Hills is truly an island on the plains where birds found nowhere else in the state can be seen. Species of woodpeckers, hummingbirds, jays, and songbirds populate the many forested canyons and draws. Many walking trails await birders, plus the famed Roughlock Falls with its diving Dippers. Elevations of over 7,000 feet will have mountain-dwelling species, while lower areas, such as the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands offer species found in grasslands and sagebrush. In the north, Bear Butte offers grasslands and a lake great for birding.
